Salary: Starting at $36,000 - $45,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)

Amplify the Voices of Nature: Join Our Team as Communications Officer

The Communications Officer plays a key role in sharing the Nature Trust’s mission and impact with audiences across New Brunswick and beyond. From crafting compelling stories and designing eye-catching materials to managing social media and collaborating on outreach initiatives, this role is perfect for a skilled communicator who wants to make a difference. 

Working closely with the Communications and Engagement Manager and Communications Coordinator, the Communications Officer assists with developing and executing strategic communications plans, produces content across multiple platforms, and helps engage and grow our community of supporters. The Communications Officer may also supervise Communications Interns and assist with event promotion and media relations. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Communications Officer works closely with the Communications and Engagement Manager and/or Coordinator to: 

  • Craft compelling stories—draft media advisories, press releases, and blog posts to share exciting conservation updates, project milestones, and inspiring stories from the field. 

  • Create eye-catching materials—design signage, promotional materials, and social media graphics using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva

  • Grow our online presence—draft and schedule engaging content for Facebook and Instagram, including high-quality visuals and impactful storytelling. 

  • Develop email campaigns—help create and manage monthly email newsletters and fundraising campaigns. 

  • Capture the beauty of nature—visit preserves to take photos and create short-form video content that highlights the stunning landscapes and wildlife we protect, and the people who help us do it. 

  • Enhance our website—update and maintain the organizational website with fresh, informative, and visually appealing content. 

  • Represent the Nature Trust—attend public events and volunteer booths, connecting with community members and potential supporters. 

  • Support outreach & events—work with the Engagement Coordinator to plan, promote, and execute special events that bring people closer to nature. 

  • Leverage technology—assist in managing Salesforce and other digital tools to track engagement and improve outreach efforts. 

  • Contribute to strategy—help refine and execute communications strategies that align with the Nature Trust’s goals and mission. 


QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Education & Experience—A post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, French, or a related field; or equivalent work experience. 

  • Strong written & verbal communication skills—you can craft engaging content that resonates with diverse audiences. 

  • Proficiency with digital tools—experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), Canva, WordPress, Microsoft Office

  • Social media expertise—experience creating and managing social media content for an organization. 

  • Graphic design & video editing—experience designing promotional materials and editing videos is a strong asset. 

  • Photography & videography—a keen eye for capturing compelling visuals is a plus. 

  • Public speaking confidence—comfortable engaging with the public at events and speaking on behalf of the Nature Trust. 

  • Research & analytical skills—strong ability to identify and craft messages that align with organizational goals. 

  • Experience with CRM platforms—familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM tools is an asset. 

  • Bilingualism (English & French)—is an asset but not required. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is desktop-based with periodic visits to nature preserves, donors, and others as required.
