Meet Shinaid:
Through clay, Fredericton-based artist Shinaid Jane Grace, relates to our natural world. Within her business, EarthSol Ceramics, designs are inspired by natural patterns, colours, and especially fungi. Shinaid tends toward sculptural perspectives on functional forms— think chanterelles growing out of teapots. This naturalist artist’s work points toward interconnectedness and aims to elevate human connection with nature.
Participants will use their hands to create coil-made cups which can be pressed with botanicals. Working with a variety of native flora, participants will be encouraged to explore texture through plant life and clay and learn more about the sustainable and renewable practice of ceramics as an art form.
Participants will be able to keep their cup after their process in the kiln. Pick-up will be at the Nature Trust of New-Brunswick’s office, date to be announced at the time of the event.
What to Bring:
- Water bottle
- Sun protection (hat, sunscreen)
- Bug spray
- Clothes you do not mind getting a bit dirty
- A blanket or anything that makes you at more comfortable on the ground
